Welcome to our page of blogs. We are currently training community leaders from around the state to blog at this site too. The vast distances we face in this state can partly be bridged by this shared conversation.

Our goal is to encourage informal, positive discussion that spurs people to connect with each other and to take united action to promote democracy, justice, equality and freedom. Idahoans have played an important role in the progressive movement in the US and we will continue to do so. Because Idaho is overlooked and dismissed by national pundits, the work of our local leaders is more resilient, creative and authentic. Join us!

The Idaho Statesman announced in a small item today that President Bush's Attorney General will be coming to Boise tomorrow, Tuesday, June 26. He arrives just before 2pm and will be at the Fort Boise Community Center. He will first have a private meeting an Anti-Gang Task force then at about 2:30 pm he'll be holding a press conference on the EAST side of Fort Boise Community Center (the side that faced Boise Little Theater). The traditional press knows, but most of the public does not. Please spread the word and plan to be there.

It appears this visit is designed to show that people in communities like Boise, Idaho support Gonzales and Bush's policies. They have kept the visit quiet as long as they could to ensure a bare minimum of publicity. They need to take pretty pictures back to DC to show that America really does support Gonzales, even though millions of people are calling for his resignation or impeachment and for a repudiation of the Bush administration's torture and domestic surveillance policies.

It is interesting to note that Gonzales is not even meeting with our Governor. That is probably because when he was a Congressman, Otter was one of the strongest opponents of the deceptively-named "USA PATRIOT ACT", an act that President Bush and his AG are using to undermine over 100 years of protected civil rights in this country.

Come to the Fort Boise Community Center to peaceably assemble and protest and let Gonzales know that Idaho does not welcome the kind of policies he and the Bush administration are forcing on us.

Bring signs: Here are a few suggestions:

  • Torture is NOT a family value
  • Torture is UN-American
  • Guantanomo has got to go
  • Remember, Idaho opposed the PATRIOT ACT!
  • You have made the Bill of Rights a Bill of Wrongs
  • What part of the Bill of Rights don't you understand?
  • Idaho cares about the Constitution.
  • Cronyism, Concealment, Corruption
  • You  are supposed to serve the Republic NOT the Republican Party
  • Our Department of Justice is not a subsidiary of the GOP
  • We need a statesman, not a partisan
  • No credibility; No confidence
What sign will you be carrying? Or if you cannot be there, what sign would you like others to carry?

RECALL GONZALES might make a nice sign for the event.

Joe and I will do our best to be there, unless something should prohibit. If we can make it, we will carry a sign that says: Restore our Constitution!

WE ARE TOO POLITE AND TOO PEACEFUL FOR OUR PROTESTS....HOW ABOUT EGGS OR TOMATOES, OR LYING DOWN IN THE ROAD AND BLOCKING THE MOTORCADE....SOMETHING LESS PASSIVE AND MUCH MORE IMPRESSIVE, YET STILL "PEACFUL".

Sorry I cannot be there to let Mr. Gonzales know that Idahoans believe in our constitution; in truth, justice, and honesty; and that we do not tolerate his or his boss' behavior.

Bring your flag - symbol of liberty and justice for ALL

Several folks have told me they cannot be there today because of concern that they may get in trouble with their employer, or clients or just being seen questioning our government's decisions even though they do question them privately...

Franklin Roosevelt spoke of the four freedoms that are so critical to the health of America. One is freedom from fear.

Bring your flag. It is a symbol that we can overcome fear. It is a symbol of liberty and justice for all in the face of power that wants us to remain silent and invisible. We have an obligation as Americans to work to restore it as a symbol in the world of freedom, liberty and justice and not as a symbol of torture.

I'll have to take off work to attend, what time are folk meeting ?

By BoiseNick on   Tuesday, June 26, 2007

2:30 at the Fort Boise Community Center

I'll try to get there at 2:00 and will look for you. The press conference is slated to begin at between 2:30 and 2:40 on the east side of Fort Boise Community Center (that's the side that faces Garrison Rd & the Boise Little Theater).

Of course, now that they know a group of ordinary folks who care about the Constitution will be gathering, they may change the location or time for the press conference. Will have to ask our folks in the press when we get there.

God Bless you who have the heart and spirit to protest against this corrupt man and the corrupt administration to whom he kowtows. I hope he comes to NC soon, so I can show my patriotism as well. Thank you!.

Gonzales refused to come out

Just got back from the Community Center. Well over 100 people gathered with signs & American flags, sang the national anthem, formally welcomed the Attorney General...Then, he refused to come out of the building. His aide announced that he changed his mind and would only speak to credentialed press 1 1/2 hours later in the US Courthouse. The public is excluded.

If the principal spokesman for the Bush Administration's policy on law, justice and the constitution cannot face people in Boise, Idaho, he cannot face them anywhere in the US.

This must be the beginning of his end.

By Jim Hansen on   Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Re: Greet Bush's Attorney General in Boise Tuesday June 26

My favorite part of the protest was when Gonzales's aide came out of the building and relayed to the crowd that Gonzales was too cowardly to come out and face us. And then everyone BOOed all super-loud. And then they snuck him out the back door all cowardly-like

My sign said NO CREDIBILITY; NO CONFIDENCE

What a fun protest :)

Re: Greet Bush's Attorney General in Boise Tuesday June 26

Yes, thanks for getting the word out. It was great to see folks out and prepared to greet our AG, I don't suppose I would have had MUCH more fun if he HAD showed his face, instead of being fraid-o.

Blogged it w/a photo on my (coincidentally, but) aptly named site:

Re: Greet Bush's Attorney General in Boise Tuesday June 26

Alberto LIAR Gonzales was too cowardly to speak to the press with about 100 of we protesters in attendance. He "re-scheduled" for another place and time . We didn't get to re-do our protest however. We were told two different addresses and one didn't even EXIST! Oh well,,,the bottom line is: BOISE RAN OFF GONZO!!!

I posted a few things on the state party website as well. Links to some articles and those blogs that I knew covered it.

Thanks to all who came. I really think we changed the news story that will be written tomorrow.

Jim, Old timer (Joe) were glad to show. I am afraid I am the one that started the singing. I was trying to think of something that would get the cameras showing the crowd, and our great signs. Thanks for your heads up on this. Keep us informed of other opportunities, and we will rally!

I loved the songs. What better way to show how much we believe in our constitution. It was perfect to sing the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful and This Land is My Land. It was also great to see you too!
