Welcome to our page of blogs. We are currently training community leaders from around the state to blog at this site too. The vast distances we face in this state can partly be bridged by this shared conversation.

Our goal is to encourage informal, positive discussion that spurs people to connect with each other and to take united action to promote democracy, justice, equality and freedom. Idahoans have played an important role in the progressive movement in the US and we will continue to do so. Because Idaho is overlooked and dismissed by national pundits, the work of our local leaders is more resilient, creative and authentic. Join us!

There is now a solid majority of US Senators who want to end the occupation of Iraq and start bringing our troops home. However, a minority of Senators - including Idaho Senators Craig and Crapo - are planning to "filibuster" to prevent taking a vote they know they'll lose. It's politics as usual in DC despite the huge toll this indefinite occupation is taking on families in Idaho and all over the world..

The legislation they are supposed to vote on tonight is actually very modest - it only requires President Bush to bring most troops home by next April. It should be a lot tougher but to get the bi-partisan majority it now has, they've stretched it out over nearly a year.

Leaders in the Senate said they'll keep the Senate in session all night to get the vote.

People all over the country want this occupation to come to an end and to begin healing families. People all over the world are waiting for the US to turn the corner and begin to work to restore our country's moral standing. To demand an end to the political games and filibusters in DC, people in most states are gathering tonight at their US Senator's offices.

There is an impromptu gathering in Boise, too! The national group Moveon.org sent out the call and a variety of people have said they'll be there. If you can make it, gather outside of Sen. Craig's office (225 N. 9th Street - between Idaho and Bannock) at 5:00 - 6:00 pm. Cathy Nuxoll is the point person for Moveon.org for the Boise gathering. There will be some first-hand accounts from Iraq vets and their families about the true cost of the war.

While MoveOn.org initiated the call for these gatherings tonight, there have been many other great gatherings initiated by the Idaho Peace Coalition and there will be more. If you aren't on the Idaho Peace Coalition mailing list go to their website and find out about activities (including every Sunday, a Walk Away from War) They have links to activities in communities around Idaho.
