Welcome to our page of blogs. We are currently training community leaders from around the state to blog at this site too. The vast distances we face in this state can partly be bridged by this shared conversation.

Our goal is to encourage informal, positive discussion that spurs people to connect with each other and to take united action to promote democracy, justice, equality and freedom. Idahoans have played an important role in the progressive movement in the US and we will continue to do so. Because Idaho is overlooked and dismissed by national pundits, the work of our local leaders is more resilient, creative and authentic. Join us!

June 26th was a beautiful day when Alberto Gonzales came sailing into Boise to try to gin up some photo ops that could be used to show that Americans support for his boss's policies. He was shocked to find that we don't. Rather, we showed that we care that America should not be promoting the use of torture, that we care that our civil liberties should be protected by the rule of law and through independent courts, and that we care that our justice system should not be infected with partisan vendettas. Gonzales left town shaken, probably wondering how long he could keep covering for policies that undermine American values.

Now, on August 27th, another beautiful day in Idaho, we got the word that he's decided enough is enough and is jumping ship.

The myth that people in the heart of America support Bush's policies on torture, domestic spying and the endless occupation of Iraq is just that, a myth. Rove figured that out and jumped ship two weeks ago (no doubt to do his work under even less public scrutiny). There is a long list, in fact, of people who have left this administration.

Why on earth are our members of Congress so silent? Have they not figured out that the policies they have supported with lock-step partisan allegiance are making making this ship sink?

If you are in the Boise area tomorrow, Tuesday, August 28th, come to the Boise Senior Center (690 Robbins Rd, behind the Elks Hospital on Fort Street) at 7:00pm and join us in asking them to take a stand and and recognize that all this jumping overboard means this ship has to be turned around!

If you are not able to be there, call all four members and tell them Sen. Crapo (208-334-1776) and Sen Craig (208-342-7985) Rep. Sali (208-336-9831) Rep. Simpson (208-334-1953)

Re: Gonzales listened to Idaho and resigned today!

Way to go Idaho! What a great demonstration of the Heartland's power and true values.

Everyone who is involved in political and social change work, whether as a volunteer or a consultant, should understand well by now that the Right's national strategies rest entirely on their ability to convey the mythology of the "Red" Heartland. If only we would put our resources into countering that ploy, we could crumble the very foundation of their assumed power. We could spend more time fighting entrenched private interests directly, forging genuinely participatory democracy and less time stumbling around in the artifice called 'Red/Blue America'.

Keep it up Idaho!
